PE & Sports Grant

PE and Sports Grant

The Government will commit funding to Primary PE and Sports up until 2020, with £750 million to be invested during this parliament. Any underspend can be carried into 2021 due to the current COVID outbreak. The investment builds on the £150 million a year ring fenced funding currently committed. For the academic year 2018/19 the school received £20,000 and received the same for the academic year 2019/20.

Previously we spent the Sports Grant on our new AstroTurf pitch. This is popular with children and very successful in introducing new skills and sports. Not only does the area allow children to challenge their athleticism it has allowed a safe and dry area to play all year round. The AstroTurf also has specific sports markings so games, running and small football games can be played. This new area has allowed the school to use more of Team Spirit to deliver a wide and varied sports programme to help our children with coordination skills, team playing skills but also independent play. The impact of the funding was increased participation in sports and clubs offered to the children, increased self-esteem and sense of team belonging for some children. This may have had a positive impact in our attendance figures.

Pupil participation continues to increase as children are undertaking a variety of competitions and celebrations of PE, both in and out of school and across JEP. Further opportunities are planned and have also included involvement in charity events such as Sport Relief and British Heart Foundation skipathons. We have been involved in inter-school football matches and cross country competitions.

Our investment from last year will allow us this academic year to:

  • Extended provision by Team Spirit in curriculum time and after school
  • Train school staff alongside our specialist providers to enhance subject knowledge
  • Run a wider range of after school clubs
  • Allow for extended inter school competitions across JEP
  • Invite Saints Football club in school every Friday with groups and teachers across KS2
  • Providing occasional introductory sessions e.g diving and gymnastics
  • Invest in new sports equipment such as gym equipment so further skills can be learned
  • Consequently celebrating children and staff sporting achievement
  • Enhance PDM training for staff

Regular meetings are held with all PE Managers from the Trust Schools. Detailed minutes from these meetings, written feedback given to teachers from observed lessons, data collected from events and competitions, clear and agreed objectives together with staff questionnaires contribute to accountability.
