WORDSWORTH PRIMARY SCHOOL

Our School

Wordsworth Infant School was built in 1970 in the Shirley area of West Southampton.

Plans to develop the school from a 2 form entry into a 3 form entry primary school from September 2012 were made to accommodate an increase in the number of children needing primary school places and to balance the number of Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 places available in the Shirley area.

We now have almost 600 children in 20 classes and last year saw our first Year 6 classes take their SATs and transition to secondary education. When full we will have 630 children in 21 classes. Our catchment area is a mixture of private and social housing. As a popular school we have a significant number of children coming from outside the catchment area.

The School grounds are an important part of Wordsworth School. We have spacious attractive grounds which are continually being developed as an exciting learning environment for the children with an environmental area including a pond, a trail, an extensive field for sports and games, a hard playground area and smaller areas for the Early Years Garden, Year 1 and Year 5/6 have a rooftop area!
