Update Regarding Our Planning for Opening the School on the 1st June 2020
12th May 2020
Dear Parents and Carers,
Re: Information about school reopening on 1st June
Following the Government decision to reopen schools for Year R, Year 1 and Year 6, I am writing to inform you that we will be planning carefully over the next few weeks in order that we can re-open our school safely to the children in these year groups on 1st June or as soon as we are instructed after that date. Until then, our school will remain closed to all children other than those of critical workers or those who meet the vulnerable criteria. The school will remain open for these children after 1st June irrespective of their year group.
I want to assure you that the phased return will prioritise the safety of children and staff and will follow strict social distancing guidelines. We will ensure the grouping of children in school, layout of classrooms, arrangements for dropping off and collecting, playtimes and lunchtimes, the use of shared spaces and facilities, cleaning regimes, staffing ratios and all aspects of school life are planned meticulously so that we keep our children and staff safe at all times.
Although we recognise the challenges many of you will face now some work restrictions have been lifted we must follow the instructions from government and so are unable to offer places to any children outside of Keyworker/Vulnerable, Year R, 1 or 6. For those children who are not allowed to attend, those in Years 2,3,4 and 5, we will continue to ensure that appropriate work is provided on-line.
I am meeting with the School Leadership Team, other JEP Heads, the teaching staff and Governors variously over the next week to consult and do our detailed planning. We will be following Government guidelines, consulting with Hamwic and taking into account the advice from our Unions to ensure we do everything we can to ensure the safety of children and staff and to provide for a return to teaching and learning. I will write to you again next week with our detailed plans for the partial reopening of school.
Over the last few years we have built a strong and supportive school community at Wordsworth and I am sure this strength will carry us through these difficult times.
Thank you for your support
