Reading Heroes

Wordsworth loves to celebrate reading! For the past two years we have been running a Reading Incentive called "Reading Heroes" to encourage children to read at home every night. We have been so impressed by the great number of children who have earned a certificate so far, and are please that we can continue "Reading Heroes" this year.

Each time you read a book with your child at home please record it in their yellow reading record book. If your child is in Year 2 or 3 please encourage them to record the book themselves in their record book or homework diary (year 3).  Please encourage your child to keep count of how many books they have read at home, as when they reach the following milestones they will receive a special certificate in the Celebration Assembly!

  • 25 books - Bronze certificate
  • 50 books - Silver certificate
  • 100 books - Gold certificate
  • 150 books - Platinum certificate
  • 200 books - Diamond certificate

We have also added a new element to our reading incentive, for children in Year 3 or those who are reading chapter books (a book with three or more short chapters). When a child has read a chapter book they need to complete a "Book Review" and hand it into their teacher. These will be added to their Reading Journal. Once the child has completed 10 book reviews they will receive a special "Reading Superstar" certificate. Once a child has received 3 of these certificates they will receive an extra special "Wordsworth Reading Award" in the Celebration Assembly.

Happy reading!
