Remember to try your 5-a-day every day, as this will really help with keeping your calculation skills in ship-shape, ready for Year 6! We will post a new 5-a-day each week, so even if you don't have a Maths tasks one day, you can still do 5-a-day ;)
Daily Maths Tasks
All of the Maths tasks that we are setting at the moment come from the White Rose Hubs scheme that we use in school for some of our steps in lessons.
Please be aware that these tasks are progressive, and the last few questions - often by Question 7, the tasks are more difficult than the 'Age Related Expectations' for Year 5. In class, we would call these 'Digging Deeper' challenges, as they help the children to move into 'Greater Depth' thinking. Please do not be concerned if your child is not able to solve these on their own. They are designed to be a challenge.
Hello everyone, I hope you had a lovely weekend. Today the children will be working on sequencing fractions, this means they will be able to compare fractions together to determine which ones are bigger/smaller than the others! I have also added all of this weeks 5-a-day to the page, the answers can be found in the same document as last week.
Today children will be comparing and ordering Fractions less than the value of 1. This will require some use of times tables and multiplication skills, as well as fraction knowledge!
Maths for today will be comparing and ordering fractions that are greater than the value of 1!
Today the children will be working on adding and subtracting fractions. This will require them to use times table and multiple knowledge to find fractions which have the same denominator! There is also a 5-a-day attached from previously in the week
Today the children will be working on adding fractions within 1- they should be starting to feel much more confident and comfortable doing this now! There is also a 5-a-day to do!
The children are still focussing on their fraction skills and today will be trying to add 3 or more fractions together. This is a skill they have previously practised so should be comfortable with doing at this point. There is also a week supply of 5-A-Day for you all, the answers can be found on the same document as before!
Today the children will be adding mixed number fractions. This will require them to create some improper (top heavy) fractions and also change the denominators of each fraction to match. This is a task that will need all of their recently learnt skills but I know they can do it!
Morning all! Today the children will be subtracting fractions. This will be similar to adding as they will need to change denominators etc.
Today the children will be subtracting mixed number fractions, this will require them to create improper fractions however they should be feeling much more confident in this skill now. Another reminder that the latter questions on the worksheet are much harder than the first ones- they will take more time and working out so don't threat if you think it is taking a long time... They just DO take a long time!!
Let us know if you need any help!
Today the children will be trying to subtract 2 mixed numbers! They will be experts at this by now!
