WORDSWORTH PRIMARY SCHOOL

SEND

At Wordsworth, we aim to provide an inclusive, warm, happy, secure and caring
environment where everyone has a sense of belonging. We support over 650 children, including several pupils who have Education, Health and Care Plans.

We have high aspirations for our children and are passionate about ensuring that all of our pupils receive a relevant, broad and balanced curriculum through high quality inclusive teaching. This will enable our children to become independent, self-motivated, life-long learners.

We value and nurture creativity and difference in every child and fundamentally believe in a holistic approach to education combining a resolute focus on the core curriculum subjects, along with an expansive topic based curriculum and extracurricular activities.  However, we understand that some children will benefit from a differentiated curriculum and additional support in order to reach their full potential.

Wordsworth Primary School is committed to the successful inclusion of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) through collaborative working with children, parents, staff and specialists. We respect, welcome and value the unique contribution that every individual can make to our school community. At Wordsworth, we are all about the child and believe every teacher is a teacher of pupils with SEND.

Our SENCOs, Mrs. Hazelwood and the Safeguarding and Inclusion Manager, Mrs. King, work closely with our team of school staff to support children with SEND. We also work collaboratively with all professionals involved with our pupils, including those from Educational Psychology, CAHMS, Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy, as well as the JEP Trust schools and the HAMWIC SEN Support team.

Graduated Response Approach

  • We will follow the graduated approach and the four-part cycle of assess, plan, do, review. See below for a table of how the graduated approach is used at Wordsworth.

Interventions Menu

  • An intervention is a short-term, focused teaching programme with specific intended outcomes aimed at individuals or small groups of pupils with particular needs. Interventions are used in addition to high quality teaching in the classroom and many pupils, with or with special educational needs, access interventions throughout their school journey. At Wordsworth, we use a number of structured and tailored interventions to support our children. Please see below for a list of interventions that your child may be taking part in.
