WORDSWORTH PRIMARY SCHOOL

The Stephen Spender Schools Laureate Prize for Poetry

In July we shyly entered a poetry translation competition - The Stephen Spender Schools Laureate Prize - with a few of our Year 5 & 6 children.

We are proud to say that Emma Sultan's poem (Year 6) was chosen as one of three Highly Commended entries in the KS1/2 category. It was a competition open to all schools across the UK, and we are celebrating this great achievement in assembly this week.

Please find below the poems/songs we sent to the Stephen Spender Prize, if you want to have a look.

The children also added some commentaries on how they found the translating process or what it made them feel like, as was requested.

Thank you so much to the teachers who allowed their children to come see me quite a few times in the mornings prior to submitting our entries. Their engagement was fantastic.

I hope you enjoy reading the poems.

Kind regards,

Mia Gheorghita
